Today the office will be a bit noisier than usual. No, there isn’t any construction going on (that was completed last summer), and there aren’t any big meetings happening. We will be welcoming 14 Mini-Confirmites to the New York City office.

For the first time in Confirmit’s 20 year history, we will be observing Take Our Daughters And Sons To Work Day. Take Our Daughters And Sons To Work® “encourages girls and boys across the country to dream without gender limitations and to think imaginatively about their family, work and community lives. This national, public education program connects what children learn at school with the actual working world. Children learn that a family-friendly work environment is an employer and family issue and not just a woman’s issue. Take Our Daughters And Sons To Work helps girls and boys across the nation discover the power and possibilities associated with a balanced work and family life.”

Working with my colleague Holly DeMuro and a few others, we have put together a plan for the day to entertain the Mini-Confirmites while teaching them a little bit about Confirmit. We will ask them to draw what they think their parent/guardian does at Confirmit, ask them to draw what they want to be when they grow up, give them a tour of the office, and play some games and do some arts and crafts throughout the afternoon. Some of our team members will also talk about their roles at Confirmit. Of course, there will also be a pizza party and cupcake decorating!

For me this is a blast from the past. In high school at my local public library, I would run after-school children’s programs ranging from cookie decorating to holiday themed arts and crafts. I also ran the statewide summer reading program for three consecutive summers. During college, I worked at a country club pool where I also ran the weekly arts and crafts activities. It is fun to be planning these types of activities again.

While I never went to an official Take Our Daughters And Sons To Work Day with my dad, he would bring me to work on occasion. Being on a Pepsi truck and getting to explore the back rooms of supermarkets was pretty cool.

While I’m sure we’ll run into a few hiccups (but hopefully not many) during the day, we will be able to learn from this experience and be able to plan better Take Our Daughters And Sons To Work Days in the future. We are looking forward to providing the children with a fun, interactive and informative day. Be sure to check our Twitter and Instagram for updated throughout the day…#COUNTONME!
