Confirmit joined 800 of the industry’s elite at the MRS Annual Conference - Impact 2016 as they celebrated their 70th year showcasing the research sector’s big ideas. This year’s theme was built around the following principles;

  • Curiosity is where we begin,
  • Insight is what we do
  • Revolution is the change we can bring.

Keynote speakers brought a range of impactful topics to the agenda. TV producer Richard Osman spoke about his views on the rise of the geek and invited attendees to participate in a game of Pointless. Author Bill Bryson shared his own approach to research by advising to "gather so much information that you have to be selective about the parts that are necessary to do the job, to make a book cohesive", and Rabbi Baroness Julia Neuberger illustrated the tendency to selectively use data to prove a desired point with an example of the Liverpool Care Pathway.

What was noticeable at the event was the sheer range of conversations taking place, which is very in keeping with the theme of the event. While core Market Research activities such as data collection, reporting, and methodologies remain as fundamental as ever, it felt like there was a real shift towards embracing new opportunities for the industry. Pragmatic Market Researchers have always understood the importance of delivering value to their customers and that seems to be something that is at the forefront of everyone’s minds as businesses demand faster, more actionable research from their suppliers.

Overall, it seemed there was a real buzz around the “R” of the event – revolution. And not just because that’s the name of the bar in which the evening event took place!
