To say that data visualization is a hot topic right now is a gross understatement.

Sites like Information is Beautiful contain attempts to convey complex information such as the UK budget deficit in an arresting design to invoke interest and understanding in what could be seen as a potentially dull topic.  Now, imagine if you can get all of your stakeholders to be as engaged in their results? Naturally, these concepts have been seized upon in the corporate world and the race is on by businesses to apply these techniques to “sex up” their own data, reports and presentations.

I think I should qualify my statements in the previous two blogs in this series that surveys are better on mobile phones than on PC: I am referring specifically to touch devices like iPhones and Androids. The good news is that the current growth in market share for touch devices, and all the new devices being released, indicates that we are moving very quickly towards a world where the majority will have touch-phones, even in emerging markets.

In my quest to answer the ultimate question “Should mobile surveys be shorter than those designed for PCs?” I came across an interesting blog from Reineke Reitsma of Forrester Research about the role of mobile devices in research. She concludes that “survey software vendors need to develop a way to recognize the device when people open up a survey invite and offer them a survey that is designed specifically for that device (short and sweet when it’s a smartphone, long and tedious when it’s a PC).”

This year I went to the Insight Show at Olympia in London for the first time. I’ve always been under the impression that Insight is a Market Research event for Market Research businesses, but I learned how wrong I was!
